Display

The display is the part you look at for years: its size, sharpness and panel type affect comfort more than most internal specs.

Four properties define a laptop display: diagonal (size in inches), resolution (sharpness), panel type (colour and viewing angles) and refresh rate (motion smoothness).

Types and differences

  • IPS โ€” the mainstream panel: decent colour and wide viewing angles.
  • TN โ€” cheap and fast but washed-out colours; common only in budget models.
  • OLED โ€” perfect blacks and vivid colour; usually found in higher-end models.
  • High refresh rate (120โ€“144 Hz and above) โ€” noticeably smoother motion in games and scrolling.
  • Touch โ€” handy in convertible laptops; adds glare and costs battery life.

How it affects your choice

For photo or video work, prioritise panel quality (IPS or OLED with good colour coverage) over raw speed. For gaming, refresh rate matters alongside the GPU. The catalog filters by diagonal.
