Battery and battery life
Battery capacity in watt-hours sets the ceiling of battery life, but real runtime depends just as much on the display, the processor class and your workload.
Capacity is measured in watt-hours (Wh): larger numbers hold more energy. A power-hungry display can drain the same battery very differently, which is why two laptops with identical batteries can last different amounts of time.
What actually drives battery life
- Display โ size, resolution and brightness are the biggest single consumers.
- Processor class and cooling โ efficient low-power chips stretch runtime; enthusiast-class chips shorten it.
- Workload โ video calls and many open tabs cost more than writing text.
- Degradation โ all batteries lose capacity over years of charge cycles; it is gradual, not sudden.

How it affects your choice
If you work away from an outlet daily, favour efficient processors and larger Wh ratings โ and treat advertised hours as a lab measurement, not a promise. Maintenance and diagnostics procedures are outside this knowledge base on purpose; this wiki covers what influences the choice.
