A 2013 ThinkPad workhorse whose graphics placing flatters it
The Lenovo ThinkPad T440p (2013) pairs an Intel Core i5 4300M with 16GB of RAM at $145 — near the floor of the business-class price band, whose median sits around $297. The headline number looks striking at first glance: a graphics placing of 45.85 against a class median of 3.84. But that placing flatters the hardware — it traces to integrated Haswell-era graphics, and the honest envelope is drawn by the capability flags: Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto V and Rainbow Six Siege clear minimum settings, and nothing beyond that. Treat this as a typing-and-browsing machine with a vintage title on the side.
The chassis is the product
What the T440p genuinely offers today is the classic upgradeable ThinkPad formula: a socketed CPU family, RAM that started at 16GB here, and a keyboard-and-hinge assembly built for heavy service. For a buyer who wants a cheap, repairable writing machine, that formula still works — the ok-flags confirm older games and everyday office loads run, and replacement parts remain inexpensive.
Reliability is the real cost
The verdict block names reliability as the weak spot, and the data agrees: an index of 16 against a class median of 42.5. This is not a machine to buy for years of dependable daily duty — it is a machine to buy cheap, use gently, and treat as replaceable. The 16GB RAM ceiling (class median 40) also caps how much workload the platform can absorb going forward.
Slow, steady depreciation from here
From a $1300 launch base, the T440p has settled at $145, losing about 6.23% per year, with a further slide to roughly $127 expected over two years. The steep losses are long past — at this price, residual-value risk is minimal.
Sits among other Haswell-era business machines
Pricier neighbors include the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3rd Gen ($152) and Dell Latitude E7240 ($160); cheaper alternatives include the Dell Latitude E6440 ($137) and HP ProBook 640 G1 ($126). All trade in the same vintage business tier — the choice comes down to chassis size and condition, not measurable performance differences.
Bottom line
The T440p is a pick for the tinkerer or budget writer who values a repairable keyboard machine at $145 and accepts that reliability (16, low band) is the compromise. The ok-flags green-light older games at minimum settings and nothing more — read the graphics placing as flattery, not capability.
