Performance scores
A Quadro P3000 workhorse anchored to the desk
The Dell Precision 7720 (2016) is the big-chassis workstation of its generation: a Core i7 6820HQ, a Quadro P3000, and 32GB of RAM at $390 — below the workstation-class median of $471. Its measured graphics score of 58.21 runs 37.8 percent above the class median in the top quartile, the standout axis on a card where mobility reads 9 against 36 and reliability 24 against 43.5. This is a plug-in machine in every sense.
Pascal-era professional throughput, still measured
The flags hold up: Overwatch clears recommended, Grand Theft Auto V clears recommended at a measured 140 fps, and Far Cry 5 clears its minimum at a measured 100 fps — the P3000's 6GB and CUDA cores still move real geometry through professional viewports and older game engines alike. The honest ceiling: 32GB of RAM is half the class median today, and the reliability reading says the chassis is deep into its service life. The GPU is the reason to buy; everything else is era-appropriate.
Price and value trajectory
From $2,200 at launch to $390 today, the 7720 has depreciated at 8.93 percent per year, with a projected $323 (a further 17.1 percent) in two years. The curve has flattened — most of the loss is behind it, leaving a workstation-price-to-GPU-score ratio that undercuts newer rivals.
Against its price neighbors
Below it sit the Precision 7710 at $333 and the ZBook 15v G5 at $345 — the previous generation and a lighter-duty HP rival. Both give up meaningful GPU throughput to get there. In this band the 7720 is the graphics pick; buyers needing mobility or newer silicon must look up the shelf, because nothing at this price moves frames like the P3000 does.
Bottom line
The Precision 7720 at $390 is a stationary workstation buy: top-quartile measured graphics at a below-median price, with rec-bar flags and a 140 fps GTA receipt. Accept the mobility score of 9 and the 32GB ceiling as the price of the deal — for desk-bound CAD, rendering, and older-engine work, the value case is unusually clean.
