Pro x2 612 G2 — a Pentium-powered detachable for niche kiosk duty
The HP Pro x2 612 G2 is a business detachable tablet-laptop (the Elite x2's ProBook sibling) built around a Pentium Gold 4410Y — an ultra-low-power dual-core. At $207 it is priced below the convertible-class median of $356. The configuration reads: graphics placing in mainstream territory (45.85 against a 3.84 median), CPU at 2.71 against a 59.6 median — a floor-level compute score, with the caveat that the graphics figure needs honest interpretation.
The detachable form factor is the product
Machines like this sold into field-service, kiosk and healthcare niches: a tablet with a detachable keyboard, built to survive drops and be serviced with one screwdriver. The Pentium Gold 4410Y was chosen for battery life and cost, not speed — its compute score (2.71, −95% versus class) is at the floor of the bracket, and daily response times reflect that honestly.
Reading the graphics score honestly
The mainstream-tier graphics placing (45.85, top quarter) flatters the hardware: the part is an integrated HD-class GPU from the mid-2010s, and the placing reflects how undemanding the typical business detachable workload is on graphics, not any real 3D capability. Light pen annotation, video playback and remote-desktop clients are the honest ceiling.
Price framing
No reliable depreciation data is available for this model (no original MSRP or release year on record), so a forward projection cannot be computed. Treat the $207 asking price as the full cost of a niche tool: the value is in the rugged detachable chassis, not the silicon inside it.
Where it sits against peers
Cheaper neighbors are the Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD ($184) and HP Spectre x360 ($181) — both conventional convertibles with faster CPUs at lower prices. Nothing else in the analog set is a detachable; buyers comparing on specs alone will find this machine overpriced, while buyers who specifically need the tablet-plus-detachable-keyboard form factor have no direct substitute here.
Bottom line
Worth the asking price only when the detachable form factor itself is the requirement — inventory terminals, point-of-service duty, pen-based note taking at walking pace. For any conventional laptop workload, the analog set offers double the compute for less money. Buy the hinge, tolerate the Pentium.
