Lenovo ThinkPad L16 Gen 3: Xe3 graphics, mobility bill
The L16 Gen 3 completes the wide-screen L-series' move to Intel's Xe3 four-core graphics at $1,300, and the familiar lift arrives: graphics at 45.85 — about 11.9 times the business-class median of 3.84 — gaming at 75 high-band, photo design at 87 top-band, CAD at 53 mid-band, all with 64GB of RAM behind them. The flagged cost this generation is mobility: 45 against a class median of 60, a 25 percent shortfall that pairs with mid-band portability of 43.3 to pin the machine to the desk.
Where it holds up
The Xe3 sheet is genuinely capable: recommended-level clearances for Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto V and Rainbow Six Siege, a Photoshop minimum pass, and a top-band 87 photo-design figure — on a 16-inch panel that shows the work. The 64GB memory ceiling clears the class median by 60 percent, office reads 91.91 top-band, and the performance index of 62.72 lands mid-pack. For a desk that alternates between spreadsheets and sessions, the formula finally covers both.
Where it falls short
Mobility at 45 is the flagged weakness — below the class's battery-first middle — and portability of 43.3 confirms the desk-first geometry. Modeling at 53 sits mid-band, the honest ceiling of integrated graphics even in this generation. Value at 36 is the weakest figure on the sheet: $1,300 buys the newest graphics at the biggest size, and the bargain-hunter's version of this machine exists one generation back.
Price and depreciation
$1,300 tops the batch's business shelf. The 2026 cohort has no depreciation history — the register's zero rate is an empty ledger, not a promise — so first-year price exposure belongs entirely to the buyer. That is the standard cost of adopting the newest generation early.
Alternatives to consider
The L16 Gen 2 (model 1824) at $1,144 keeps elite 91 reliability and enthusiast CPU for $156 less with no visual reach. The T16 Gen 5 (model 1855) at the same $1,300 posts the matching Xe3 platform with 96GB of RAM and a slightly weaker photo figure (75); the E16 Gen 4 (model 1812) is a near-identical sheet in E-series clothing.
Bottom line
Fairly priced for the class. The L16 Gen 3 is the do-everything wide ThinkPad — big screen, new graphics, huge memory — with the mobility bill printed plainly on the sheet. Desk-bound generalists get a machine that finally has hobbies.
