HP OMEN 15-dc0051nr review

A GTX 1060 classic at the price floor of its capability tier

The OMEN 15-dc0051nr (2018) carries an i7-8750H and the GTX 1060 6GB — the card that defined mid-tier gaming for a generation — with 32GB of RAM at $554, 26% below the gaming-class median. The readings frame a seven-year-old platform honestly: reliability at 25 against a class median of 53, memory ceiling at 32GB against the 64GB norm, graphics at 46.37 against 78.49. The capability sheet keeps the claim alive with rec-bar clears on Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto V and Rainbow Six Siege plus Photoshop and Visual Studio Code minimums. The 1060's receipts outlive its era; the chassis readings do not.

What a 1060 still proves on screen

Three recommended-bar clears are the platform's defense: the esports shelf and the mid-2010s AAA shelf remain fully in scope, and the Photoshop minimum extends the machine's second career into light content work. The 46.37 graphics reading — 41% below the class median — places it honestly in the budget segment of today's class, but the measured receipts are a reminder that scores and experience diverge at this tier: the card plays its era's games properly.

The age ledger, plainly

Reliability at 25 is the headline risk: 53% below the class median, the numerical signature of a chassis seven years into a gaming career. The 32GB memory ceiling halves the modern multitasking norm. Neither reading is a surprise at $554; both are the reason the price is what it is. The purchase is a bet on the receipts and the seller's care, priced with the risk already discounted.

Depreciation: the flat years have arrived

From a $1,800 anchor the price has settled at $554, decaying at 10.4% per year with a two-year projection near $445. The curve's steep phase is complete — from here the machine loses value slowly, which fits a buyer who plans to use it rather than trade it.

Against the neighbors

A Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1073dx at $628 and a G5 SE 5505 at $604 offer newer platforms above; a G3 3579 at $482 and an Inspiron 7577 at $495 are the same-era floors below. This seat sits mid-bracket: the confirmed 1060 receipts against newer-but-weaker alternatives above and equal-era cheaper machines below.

Bottom line

Budget-friendly, honestly. For the defined use case — confirmed titles at 1080p, desk-first life, minimum cash — the 1060 receipts justify the ticket; the reliability and memory readings are the fine print the price already discounts.
