Dell XPS 15 9575 2 in 1 review

The cheapest ticket to the Kaby Lake G experiment

The XPS 15 9575 2-in-1 with the i5-8305G lists at $274 — 23% below the convertible-class median — making it the lowest-priced entry to Intel's one-generation experiment: a quad-core processor with a Radeon RX Vega M GL co-packaged on the same die. Its graphics score of 9.54 reads 148% above a convertible median of 3.84, where shelf-mates have no card at all. The flagged weakness is reliability at 23 versus 49; mobility lands at 32 against a 68 median — thick for a convertible.

Convertible-shelf graphics, floor pricing

The ok-flags print what almost no convertible can: Overwatch at minimum, GTA V at minimum with a 140fps measured receipt, Dota 2 at minimum, VS Code at minimum. For $274, that is a documented light-gaming capability in a 2-in-1 format — the experiment's whole promise, at its lowest ever price of entry.

The honest costs

Reliability at 23/49 is the flagged watch-out, sharpened by platform history: Kaby Lake G survived exactly one generation, and driver support ended years ago. Mobility at 32/68 says the machine is heavier and thicker than its format's norm — the co-packaged GPU demanded cooling. The verdict calls it worth the asking price, which is the correct reading of an experiment bought at salvage pricing.

Price trajectory

From a $1,500 anchor to $274 at a 9.09% annual rate, projecting $227 in two years — a 17.36% drop. The value floor is effectively here; the uniqueness no longer commands a premium.

Against its neighbors

Upward, HP's Elite X2 1012 G2 at $297 — a detachable with no graphics card. Downward, HP's Elite x2 G4 at $260 and Dell's Latitude 7200 2-in-1 at $234 — cheaper convertibles, card-less. Sideways, HP's EliteBook x360 1030 G3 at $277 and Dell's Inspiron 7579 x360 at $269. The 9575's pitch against all five: only it prints gaming flags.

Bottom line

A budget-priced piece of one-generation hardware history that still games at minimum level. Buy it for the format plus the flags at $274; know that the driver era ended long before the price did.
