Dell 17 9710 review

An eight-core i9 in desk-machine clothing

Dell's 17 9710 is a 17-inch desktop replacement listed at $1,159 — 55% above the gaming-class median of $749.56. The flagship-leaning configuration pairs an eight-core i9-11900H with an RTX 3060 and 64GB of RAM. Its measured sheet is fully green at the recommended level for Overwatch, GTA V and Rainbow Six Siege. The catch is physical: mobility scores 18 against a class median of 29, and reliability tracks 36 versus 53 — both flagged in the budget segment.

Silicon that still holds up

An i9-11900H with 64GB of memory remains a genuinely quick combination for production work and 1080p-to-1440p gaming; the 3060's 6GB frame buffer clears every recommended bar in the measured set. The 17-inch chassis turns that silicon into sustained performance rather than a thermally-throttled compromise.

The trade-offs: it stays home

Mobility at 18/29 is the verdict's watch-out, and reliability at 36/53 is the quiet second concern — a four-year-old performance machine carries usage history. Neither is disqualifying, but both should be priced in: this is a desk machine that occasionally moves, not a travel companion.

Price trajectory

From an $1,800 anchor, current $1,159 with a 13.44% annual rate and a projected $868 in two years — a 25.08% drop. The depreciation pace is moderate for the class, meaning resale value holds reasonably for a big-format machine.

Against its neighbors

Upward, HP's Envy 16-h1001nr at $1,260 and OMEN 17-ck1111nr at $1,222 offer newer platforms. Downward, Alienware's m17 R3 at $1,027 and HP's Victus 15-fa2016ns at $1,015 are the closer rivals — the m17 R3 gives an Alienware chassis for less, while this Dell counters with the i9 and larger screen.

Bottom line

A big-screen, big-silicon desktop replacement for someone who wants i9 compute and a 3060 with comfortable thermals. Accept the desk-bound weight and mid-pack reliability odds, and the price is defensible; want portability and this is the wrong aisle.
