Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14ALC7 review

Six AMD cores and 64GB in a 14-inch convertible

The IdeaPad Flex 5 14ALC7 from 2021 asks $395, a step above the convertible-class median of $356. Its configuration is unusually dense for the format: a Ryzen 5 5500U hexacore and a 64GB memory ceiling — double the class median, top-25 for the category. Graphics read at the data floor (integrated-only, unmeasured), and the overall score of 54 against a class middle of 46 is one of the healthier composite readings in this batch.

Convertibles rarely carry this much engine

The convertible class skews toward efficient, modest silicon; this Flex 5 carries a six-core processor and 64GB of RAM. For a buyer who wants the tent-and-tablet format without the usual performance tax, the configuration reads like a general-class machine folded into a 360-degree hinge — multitasking headroom that outclasses the format's typical envelope.

The scoped limits

Graphics at zero means no game gates and no visual-workload claims — the Vega silicon is integrated and our bands register nothing above the floor. The composite score 17% above the class median confirms the CPU-and-memory strength while the graphics axis stays silent. The honest framing: every claim this machine supports is about cores and capacity; none is about pixels.

Price trajectory

From a $1,500 anchor the machine has settled at $395 at 11.12% per year — a modern-machine rate — with a two-year projection of $312, a 21% drop. Recent silicon depreciates faster in dollars; the offset is that this 2021 platform has most of its useful life still ahead.

Against the alternatives

Above it: HP's EliteBook 830 G8 x360 at $422 and Elite x360 830 G9 at $430 — business convertibles with newer badges. Below: HP's Pavilion x360 14m at $372 and Lenovo's own Flex 5 14IAU7 at $350 — the 12th-gen Intel sibling at $45 less, which is the natural cross-shop: newer CPU generation versus six cores plus the same 64GB.

Bottom line

Fairly priced for what is genuinely on offer: a six-core, 64GB convertible for under $400. The honest caveat is graphics — integrated, unmeasured, unclaimed. Buy it for format-plus-compute; the moment the workload turns visual, this is the wrong machine.
