Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen review

A flagship convertible body at a fallen price

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen from 2017 asks $328 against a convertible-class median of $356. This was the top of Lenovo's convertible line — the X1 badge in a pen-enabled 360-degree chassis — and today's price is the flagship discount in full effect. Configuration: a Core i5 8350U quad-core with a 32GB memory ceiling. Measurements: CPU 32.75 against a 59.6 class median, graphics at the data floor, reliability 19 against 49.

What the X1 badge still delivers

Build density, keyboard quality, the pen garage in the chassis, the sober carbon-fiber presence — the X1 Yoga's virtues are the ones that survive price collapse, because they are materials and design rather than performance. The quad-core 8350U handles the office load, and the 32GB ceiling keeps the multitasking ceiling high for a machine of its year. As a object-first purchase, the discount is dramatic.

The bounds that come with age

Graphics at zero is the integrated-only reading — no visual scope beyond the display's own work. Reliability at 19 against 49 is the flagged axis: eight years of hinge cycles on a machine whose hinge is the expensive part. The CPU sits 45% under the class median, era-typical. The honest read: premium materials age gracefully; premium prices do not survive — this listing is both truths at once.

Price trajectory

From a $1,500 anchor the machine has decayed to $328 at 8.54% per year, with a two-year projection of $275. The flagship premium has fully unwound into the class median's territory — which is the entire pitch of buying used flagship hardware.

Against the alternatives

Above it: the ThinkPad X390 Yoga at $358 and HP's Spectre x360 15 at $345. Below: HP's EliteBook x360 1030 G4 at $305 — the direct rival, a newer-generation business convertible for $23 less. That neighbor is the cross-shop: newer silicon versus this unit's flagship-grade materials.

Bottom line

A budget-friendly pick for a buyer who wants flagship convertible feel at mid-band money. The honest caveats: integrated-only graphics, era-typical CPU speed, and a reliability reading that says the hinge has history. Buy the object and the keyboard; expect office-tier performance and nothing more.
