Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15ALC05 review

Eight cores and 64GB in a general-class shell

The IdeaPad 5 15ALC05 from 2021 asks $495 — twice the general-class median of $248, a top-25 price for the category. What the specs buy is configuration density: a Ryzen 7 5700U with eight cores, sixteen threads, and a 64GB memory ceiling against a class median of 32GB. The trade is equally clear: graphics read at the data floor — the Vega silicon is integrated and unmeasured by our bands — and no game gates are claimed.

A CPU-and-memory machine

For workloads that scale with cores and RAM, this is an unusual amount of compute for the class: code compilation, batch media encoding, large data wrangling, virtualization. The 5700U is an efficiency-tuned eight-core, so it delivers sustained multicheck throughput rather than burst speed — exactly the profile that benefits from the 64GB beside it.

The trade-off named plainly

The graphics floor is the structural limit: no discrete card, no game gates, no GPU-accelerated creative scope. A buyer at $495 in the general class is paying near-gaming-machine money for CPU-and-memory capability — the honest cross-shop is a cheaper Ryzen machine with half the RAM, or a gaming-class unit if the GPU matters at all. The verdict's watch-out names gaming, and the data confirms it.

Price trajectory

From a $900 anchor the machine has settled at $495, decaying at 11.13% per year — a modern-machine rate — with a two-year projection of $391, a 21% drop. The faster curve is the price of recent silicon: more absolute value at risk, offset by more years of useful life ahead.

Against the alternatives

The local band is thin: Lenovo's IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRU8 at $469 and HP's 17-c3000 at $422 below, nothing of the same core count listed above. The Slim 3 sibling — a 13th-gen Intel with the same 64GB — is the natural rival, and the choice between them is cores-versus-frequency rather than price.

Bottom line

Is the IdeaPad 5 15ALC05 worth buying in 2026? Fairly priced for what it is: an eight-core, 64GB workhorse in a plain 15-inch shell, at exactly the money such density costs. Buy it for CPU-bound work and never for pixels; the graphics axis is the one thing the premium does not reach.
