Performance scores
An honest cheap ThinkPad for undemanding duty
The ThinkPad L390 from 2019 asks $232, clearly below the business-class median of $297. The configuration is a Core i5 8365U quad-core with a 32GB memory ceiling. Its measurements are modest on every axis — performance index 26.3 against 41.5 for the class, reliability 27 against 42.5, graphics at the data floor — and that consistency is the story: nothing inflated, nothing hidden.
The ThinkPad floor has real virtues
The L-series exists to put the ThinkPad keyboard, serviceability, and business manageability into the cheapest possible shell. The quad-core 8365U handles the office load — documents, calls, many tabs — without excuses, and the 32GB ceiling is generous company for a machine at this price. For keyboard-heavy text work at minimum spend, the formula still works.
The readings to respect
Graphics at zero means integrated-only: no game gates pass, and this is not a machine for any visual workload. The reliability index of 27 flags age-appropriate wear; the performance index 37% below the class median is the CPU floor showing — adequate for office duty, not for compute. The verdict's watch-out names graphics, and the data supports it.
Price trajectory
From a $1,300 anchor the machine has settled at $232 at 8.45% per year, with a two-year projection of $194. Cheap entry, gentle curve: the market has already discounted this machine to its honest working value.
Against the alternatives
Above it: Dell's Latitude 5300 at $256 and Lenovo's ThinkPad L380 at $247. Below: HP's ProBook 450 G5 at $219 and Lenovo's L580 at $217. The L580 sibling at $217 — same generation, 15-inch format — is the natural cross-shop; this unit's pitch is the smaller chassis and the price under the median.
Bottom line
A budget-friendly pick that is exactly what it appears to be: a real ThinkPad at entry money for office workloads. The honest caveats are integrated-only graphics and age-flagged reliability. For a buyer who types for a living and spends little, this is the class of machine the used market was made for.
