Lenovo ThinkPad T580 review

ThinkPad T580 — the 15-inch T-series with a modest measured profile

The T580 (2017) is the standard 15-inch business ThinkPad of its year; its specs here — a Core i5-class CPU and 32GB of RAM — price at $261, under the $297 business-class median. The measured profile: graphics 7.91 against a 3.84 class median — an era-relative above-median placing for an iGPU in an iGPU-dominated class, not a capability claim — with reliability 24 versus 42.5 and mobility 37 versus 60 marking the age and the chassis size honestly.

What it does well

By ok-flags it clears minimum settings for Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto V, and The Sims 4 — light and older titles at low settings, the honest envelope of the era's iGPU. The 32GB of RAM is generous for the platform, and the T-series build brings the full keyboard standard plus the OneLink/dock ecosystem. A dependable desk-and-dock office machine.

The trade-offs, stated plainly

Reliability at 24 versus 42.5 is the age signal: a seven-plus-year-old platform whose battery life and wear parts are aging. Mobility at 37 versus 60 reflects the 15-inch size — carry-occasionally, not daily. Graphics claims stay era-scoped; no gaming beyond the ok-flag envelope. Performance is mid-pack against a class with newer silicon.

Price trajectory

From a $1,300 launch configuration it has declined at about 7.6% per year to $261, with a projected $223 in two years (15% further). The T-series name holds value slightly better than the value lines — a gentle, predictable curve.

Against its neighbors

A Dell Vostro 3583 at $281 and an HP ProBook 470 G5 at $278 sit above; a Dell Vostro 3580 at $237 and a Latitude 7490 at $232 below. The Latitude 7490 at $232 is the notable cross-check — the premium 14-inch business alternative for $29 less; the T580 counters with the larger panel and dock ecosystem.

Bottom line

Is the ThinkPad T580 worth buying in 2026? Yes, for the desk-anchored business buyer: 15-inch T-series ergonomics, 32GB of RAM, era-scoped entertainment clearance. Buyers open to a smaller chassis get a newer-feeling machine for less next door.
