Performance scores
ProBook 6460b — a 2011 armored workhorse with an 8 GB ceiling
The 2011 ProBook 6460b is the 14-inch sibling of HP's rugged business generation: an i5-2450M with 8 GB of RAM. At $140 it sits far below the business-class median of $297. The scores need honest framing: a mainstream graphics placing (45.85, top quarter) that flatters the hardware, RAM at 8 GB — the standard tier, 80% below the class median — and CPU 12.8 against a 52.97 median (deep basic tier).
The armor is the product
The 6460b generation shared the 6560b's MIL-spec construction: spill-resistant keyboard, magnesium frame, drop tolerance. These units commonly outlast their era contemporaries mechanically — which is why the line still populates this price band. The dual-core i5 handles documents and patient browsing; the 8 GB keeps single-task duty comfortable.
Reading the numbers without flattery
The mainstream graphics placing is the class-baseline effect — the integrated HD 3000-class part has no modern capability regardless of placing; even minimum-tier modern titles fail on this silicon. The CPU's deep basic-tier score (−76% versus class) bounds the machine to patient duty. The 8 GB RAM ceiling is the practical multitasking bound — the machine's most limiting modern spec.
Price trajectory
From roughly $1,300 new to $140 today at 5.7% per year, projecting to $125 in two years (11.1% lower). Terminal commodity pricing — the curve has nearly nothing left to give.
Where it sits against peers
Pricier neighbors are the Dell Latitude E5520 ($160) and EliteBook 8570p ($152) — newer or larger siblings; cheaper options are the Dell Latitude E6320 ($132) and ProBook 6560b ($127), the same generation in other sizes. Condition decides everything in this band; the 6460b's 14-inch size is its practical niche.
Bottom line
Worth the asking price as a near-disposable armored duty machine: the chassis quality is real, the price is terminal, and the honest scope is single-task terminal duty. The graphics placing is cosmetic and the RAM ceiling is binding. For $30 more, one-generation-newer neighbors deliver materially better working specs.
