HP EliteBook 830 G6 review

A 2019 13-inch EliteBook whose strength is its light weight — a portable office companion

The HP EliteBook 830 G6 is a 2019 13-inch business laptop at $232, below the business median of $297. Its standout is weight: at 1.33kg it is about 17% lighter than the category median, landing in the "light" tier — a genuinely portable machine. The trade-offs are no graphics headroom (integrated, best_gpu_score zero) and a "low" reliability outlook at 27.

Light and easy to carry

The weight of 1.33kg — about 17% below the category median of 1.6kg, in the "light" tier — is the genuine strength here. For anyone who carries a laptop all day, that matters more than raw performance. This is a machine built to travel, and it earns its place on portability.

No graphics, and a modest reliability outlook

The trade-offs follow the ultraportable form: graphics register zero against the category median (integrated, no discrete GPU), so gaming and GPU work are off the table. Reliability at 27 is "low" (about 37% below median), and the performance index of 26.3 is also below the category median — this is a portable office machine, not a performer.

Moderate depreciation from here

From near $1,300 originally, the 830 G6 has fallen to $232 at about 8.5% per year, with a projected two-year value near $194 — about a 16% further drop. The decline is steady for a 2019 machine.

Where it sits among peers

Priced just below similar business ultrabooks: a Dell Latitude 5300 ($256) or Lenovo ThinkPad L380 ($247) cost a bit more, while an HP ProBook 450 G5 ($219) or Lenovo ThinkPad L580 ($217) come in cheaper. For the light weight at this price, it competes well in the ultra-budget business tier.

Bottom line

At $232 this is worth the asking price if portability is your priority — at 1.33kg it is a light, carry-friendly 13-inch machine for everyday office work. The compromises are no graphics and a "low" reliability outlook. A good pick for a portable office companion; pass if you need gaming or CPU muscle.
