Dell Inspiron 15 5515 review

Dell Inspiron 15 5515 (2021): as clean a sheet as the budget wing produces

The Dell Inspiron 15 5515 is the AMD sibling of the 5510 and as clean a sheet as this batch's under-$400 wing produces: a Ryzen 3 5300U with Radeon Vega 6 graphics and 32GB of memory at $399, with no top weakness named against class peers and no axis anywhere in the low band — a rarity at any price in this tier.

Where it holds up

The graphics score of 43.85 runs 61 percent above the class median and anchors a genuinely even spread: photo design at 67 is high-tier, value at 70.55 is high-tier, gaming at 44 and modeling at 50 and CAD at 51 are all mid-tier, office at 84.85 is high-band, and mobility at 68 clears the class median by 36 percent. The 32GB of memory matches the class median. Nothing collapses; several things excel.

Where it falls short

With no named weakness and no low-band axis, the honest limits are positional rather than absolute: portability at 50.8 is mid-tier, overall performance at 54.14 is mid-band, and photo at 67 — while high-tier — trails its own Intel sibling's 84 when a discrete MX450 is in play. This is a 2021 budget platform: competent everywhere, exceptional nowhere, and modern software will age it faster than the sheet suggests.

Price and depreciation

No baseline price exists in the ledger, so the projection runs rate-only at a modeled 11.13 percent per year. On $399 that implies roughly $44 of expected first-year loss — near the batch's absolute floor. The clean sheet and high-tier value reading suggest the residual will hold about as well as anything in this tier.

Alternatives to consider

The Inspiron 15 5510 (2021) at the same $399 is the Intel-plus-dGPU sibling: photo at 84 versus 67 and a measured 34-frame gaming receipt, versus this machine's cleaner balance and quieter thermals — the workload decides. The Inspiron 14 5415 (2021) at the same price is the same AMD platform in a lighter 14-inch frame with value at 70.55. If the budget stretches $71, the Inspiron 16 5625 (2022) at $470 adds a top-tier photo reading of 87 with the same 32GB.

Bottom line

Fairly priced for the class. The 5515 delivers a clean sheet: no named weakness, no low-band axis, high-tier photo and value, and high-band office at $399. It is the safe pick of the under-$400 club — the sibling with the discrete GPU out-punches it visually, but nothing here disappoints.
