Performance scores
Framework Laptop 16 (2023) — the ninety-six-gig modular with a 5070 and the batch's best value
The Framework Laptop 16 at $553 pairs an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS with a GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop (8 GB) and 96 GB of RAM. The memory is the flagged strength: three times the class median of 32, pro tier, top quartile. Graphics post 69.57 (2.6 times the class median, top quartile) and overall performance 84.39 (96% above class). The flagged weakness is weight: 2.1 kg, 17% above the class typical.
Where it holds up
Office productivity at 98.15 — top band — leads a five-top sheet: gaming 89, 3D modeling 94, engineering CAD 94 and photo design 92. Value posts 94.25 (top), the highest value reading in this batch — $553 for a 96 GB, RTX 5070 modular machine is the standout arithmetic of the generation. The measured fits clear recommended bars across Overwatch, GTA V and Rainbow Six Siege, with Premiere and Photoshop minimums passing.
Where it falls short
Weight at 2.1 kg is the flagged cost of the modular gaming chassis, and portability reads 33.7 (low) to match. The value case depends on the buyer valuing the spec; the finished-machine polish of the big brands is not what this product sells.
Price and depreciation
No depreciation anchor is recorded (base $0); no curve or projection applies. The cohort rate is 12.85% per year — a moderate slope for the tier.
Alternatives to consider
The Framework Laptop 13 Pro at $900 is the current-platform modular route with portability 75.2. The Legion Slim 7i Gen 7 at $737 offers photo 92 in a finished chassis at a 24 GB ceiling. The Legion 5i 15 (2021) at $590 is the other sub-$600 gaming route with photo 92 and value 81.95.
Bottom line
Fairly priced for the class. The value champion: 96 GB with an RTX 5070, five top bands and value 94.25 — the batch's best arithmetic at $553, paid for in a 2.1 kg chassis and portability 33.7.
