Gigabyte G5 (2022) review

Gigabyte G5 (2022) — the $470 gaming-capable floor of the batch

The Gigabyte G5 2022 at $470 is the cheapest machine in this batch: a twelve-core Intel Core i5 12500H with a GeForce RTX 3050 (4 GB) and 64 GB of RAM, classed as a general laptop. The flagged strength is graphics at 72.55 — 166.3% above the general-class median of 27.24 — with memory at 64 GB (+100%) and overall performance at 69.69 (+61.9%) alongside. The flagged weakness is mobility at 34, 32% below the class median of 50.

Where it holds up

Office productivity posts 91.91 (top) on the full 64 GB, with gaming at 61 (mid), the modeling/CAD pair at 41 (mid), photo design 40 (mid), portability 40.3 (mid) and value 62.7 (mid); the recommended bar is cleared for Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto V and Rainbow Six Siege, and the Visual Studio Code minimum is met — a full gaming-class capability sheet in general-class clothing.

Where it falls short

Mobility at 34 (low band) is the flagged gap — the desk-friendly format — and the 4 GB RTX 3050 is entry VRAM of its generation, keeping gaming mid. Photo design at 40 (mid) trails the gaming-class panels, and no top-band reading exists outside office.

Price and depreciation

No depreciation anchor is recorded (base $0); no curve or projection applies. The 2022 cohort rate is 11.94% per year — the settled mid band of a four-year-old tier.

Alternatives to consider

The Gigabyte G5 2023 at $553 steps up to the 12450H and the 6 GB card; the Gigabyte G5 2024 at $650 brings the RTX 4050 with photo 91 (top); and the Lenovo V17 Gen 4 at $553 is the non-gaming office route at the same money.

Bottom line

Fairly priced for the class. The cheapest cleared-gaming-bar machine of the batch — 64 GB, top office, value 62.7 at $470 — with mobility 34 and a 4 GB card as the honest floor terms.
