Performance scores
Aspire 5 17-inch (2023): the big panel at a small price
Acer's Aspire 5 A517-58 from 2023 asks $553 with a Core i5 1335U, a GeForce MX150 and 16GB of RAM. The graphics axis reads 55.2 — double the general-class median, on the oldest GPU name in this group — with photo design 89 top and reliability 74 high. The flagged weakness is memory: 16GB at half the category median.
The 17-inch budget case
The recommended checks pass for Overwatch, GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege, Photoshop minimum and Far Cry 5 recommended at a measured 35 fps. Office reads 77.19 high, value 77.15 high, performance 54.2 mid. The 89-top photo design line is the standout: top-band creative credit on a $553 big-screen budget build.
The carry cost
Portability reads 19.3 in the low band — the 17-inch chassis takes its usual toll on every carry metric the catalog measures. Modeling 54 and CAD 54 mid mark the MX150-era ceiling honestly. Three years old at a 12.85% class rate, the depreciation has largely passed into the $553 ask already.
No depreciation anchor
No anchored price history backs this listing. Class rate 12.85% per year at three years of age — the steep part is behind it.
Against its alternatives
The 2021 A517-52 at $37 more reads photo design 75 and portability 7.8 — this 2023 build wins both lines. The 15-inch A515-58 at the same $553 offers the same core at portability 46 — carry comfort instead of screen area. The Nitro 5 17-inch AN517-41 at $590 is the gaming-class alternative at $37 more.
Bottom line
The 17-inch screen at $553 with photo design 89 top and a full receipt book — a strong big-panel value in this group. Sign the 19.3-low portability and the 16GB RAM flag; the rest of the sheet over-delivers for the price.
