The OnePlus 9R is the 2021 India-market sibling of the OnePlus 9 that swapped the headline chip for the Snapdragon 870 and kept nearly the whole hardware package, including the 6.55-inch 120 Hz OLED, the 4500 mAh battery and a 189-gram body. Our catalog scores it 71 on everyday use, 20 on gaming and 86 on compactness, with the camera axis at 35. A 48-megapixel stabilized main camera records 4K60 video, the 8/128 GB trim was tracked at about $500 new, and our used sample holds a single listing at about $194. The OnePlus 9 is the chip-upgraded twin, and the OnePlus 8T is the predecessor whose fast-charging formula the 9R inherited.

Display and design

The 6.55-inch flat OLED refreshes at 120 Hz and scores 56 on our screen axis, with the same 500-nit brightness figure as its number-series twin. No ingress rating is documented. At 189 grams the body is effectively indistinguishable from the OnePlus 9 in the hand, which was the point of the design brief.

Performance

The Snapdragon 870 is the reason this model exists: a 2020 flagship chip with proven thermals, scored 20 on our gaming axis and paired with an everyday axis score of 71. RAM configurations span 8 GB and 12 GB across tracked trims, and the conservative chip makes the 8 GB base trim a safer long-term bet than it would be behind a hotter processor.

Camera

The camera axis score of 35 is set by a 48-megapixel main camera with optical stabilisation and 4K60 video capture. The auxiliary modules are documented with figures we do not cite, so treat the stabilized main sensor as the imaging core and the rest of the array as supplemental.

Battery and charging

The 4500 mAh battery scores 30 on our battery axis and refills over 65 W wired charging, giving the charge axis score of 46 shared with the rest of the 2021 OnePlus flagship family. No wireless charging tier is documented for this model.

Verdict

The OnePlus 9R is the connoisseur option of the 2021 family: nearly all of the OnePlus 9 experience built around the cooler, more predictable Snapdragon 870. With one used listing at about $194 in our sample it is rare on the secondary market outside its home region, but the axes confirm the value case, from the 120 Hz OLED to the stabilized main camera and 65 W refill. If you find one, the compact 86-point body makes it an easy daily carry.
