The OnePlus 8 is the 2020 base flagship of the 8 line, running the Snapdragon 865 in a 6.55-inch 90 Hz OLED with a 4300 mAh battery and a 180-gram body. Our catalog scores it 66 on everyday use, 18 on gaming and 91 on compactness. A 48-megapixel stabilized main camera records 4K60 video, and the 6/128 GB trim was tracked at about $699 new. The OnePlus 8 Pro is the full flagship, and the OnePlus 8T the same-year refresh.

Display and design

The 6.55-inch OLED refreshes at 90 Hz and scores 57 on our screen axis, with a 1300-nit brightness figure that led its season outdoors. No ingress rating is documented. At 180 grams the body earns the compactness score of 91 — the light, curved-flagship shape OnePlus was known for, with none of the Pro model's mass.

Performance

The Snapdragon 865 posts an everyday axis of 66 and a gaming axis of 18: flagship pace of 2020 with the calm thermals that aged well, and 5G on board for the carriers that had it. Tracked trims run from 6 to 12 GB of RAM, and no software-window figure is documented for this model.

Camera

The camera axis of 32 rests on a 48-megapixel stabilized main sensor with an ultrawide and a third companion, recording up to 4K60. OIS keeps the main dependable, and daylight output held up as one of the better base-flagship cameras of its year; the supporting pair is framing-only.

Battery and charging

The 4300 mAh battery scores 26 on our battery axis — a single day at flagship pace — and 30 W charging scores 12, a refill pace that was already behind the 8 Pro and looks slower still next to the 8T. Endurance and refill speed were the one place the base model visibly paid for its lightness.

Verdict

At about $699 new for 6/128 GB, the OnePlus 8 was the light flagship of 2020: a 1300-nit screen, 180 grams and a main camera that kept up. Used market data is sparse. The 8 Pro added the bigger screen and cameras, and the 8T fixed the refill pace within months.
