The OnePlus 8 Pro was OnePlus's 2020 statement flagship: a 120 Hz OLED with a 1,300-nit peak, the Snapdragon 865, and a four-lens camera led by a stabilised 48 MP main sensor. It launched at $899; 12/256 GB units now sell for around $225 with a five-sale sample — a former ultra-premium phone at a budget price.

Display and design

The 6.78-inch OLED was class-leading in 2020 and still scores 68/100 on our screen-quality axis, with the 120 Hz refresh carrying most of the modern feel. Compactness is 81/100, and IP68 sealing was a first for the brand. Software support has ended, which is the context every 2020 OnePlus purchase happens in.

Performance

The Snapdragon 865 remains serviceable: our gaming score of 18/100 means demanding 3D titles need reduced settings, while everyday responsiveness at 66/100 keeps general use smooth. For a $225 phone the experience floor is remarkably even.

The camera array is the 8 Pro's claim to memory: a stabilised 48 MP main sensor, a 3x telephoto, an ultrawide, and a color-filter lens, with video to 4K at 60 fps. Our camera score of 49/100 was near the top of 2020's charts and still outpoints most budget phones by a wide margin — the main reason this model holds collector interest.

Battery and charging

The 4,510 mAh battery scores 30/100 on battery life — a conservative full day in 2026 terms — and 30 W wired charging scores 12/100. Plan around evening top-ups; the wireless charging feature of this generation is the historical footnote.

Verdict

At around $225 used, the OnePlus 8 Pro is a nostalgia-driven value pick: the best display and camera of its generation for OnePlus, now at a tenth of launch pricing. Ended software support and modest endurance are the real costs — this is a second phone or a tinkerer's device, not a three-year plan. The OnePlus 8T traded the telephoto and IP rating for faster charging at less money; the OnePlus 10 Pro is the newer long-lens step of the same family.
