Motorola Razr (2025)

Motorola Razr (2025) vs Motorola Razr (2024): which should you buy?

Motorola Razr (2025) vs Motorola Razr (2024) compared: performance, cameras, battery, software support and used prices — with a clear verdict.

The short version

Two generations of the same idea: a big-screen clamshell with mid-range silicon and a $699 launch price. In 2026 the used market splits them by $109 — about $259 for the Razr (2025) against $150 for the Razr (2024). The newer model buys a bigger battery, a chip bump and an extra year of updates; the older one is one of the cheapest folding phones anywhere. Both are 6.9-inch 120 Hz OLEDs at 188 g with the same 50 MP main and 13 MP ultrawide cameras.

Performance

MediaTek's ladder does the work: the Dimensity 7400 in the 2025 model posts about 953K AnTuTu against 880K for the 7300 — a single-digit bump that lands our gaming scores at 18/100 versus 15/100. Everyday use feels identical on both; neither is a heavy-gaming platform, and neither pretends to be. The real differences are endurance and runway, not speed — details in our Dimensity 7400 guide and Dimensity 7300 guide.

Battery

The 2025 model's 4,500 mAh cell (versus 4,200) plus the newer chip's efficiency gives it a real edge — our battery scores read 30/100 versus 24/100 — and both charge at 30 W. On a flip phone, where every milliamp-hour is hard-won, this is the most tangible generational gain.

What regressed

Water sealing: the 2024 model carries an IPX8 rating — submersion-tested, unusual for a folding phone — while the 2025 model settles for IP48 splash resistance. Around pools and rain, the older phone is formally the safer one. Everything else is status quo: same cameras (4K30 video), same 120 Hz display, same 30 W charging, same $699 launch storage of 8/256 GB.

Verdict

Buy the Razr (2024) at ~$150 if the budget is the point — it is the least expensive way into a modern clamshell, with better water sealing as a bonus, and one fewer year of updates (final-year window in 2026) as the cost. Buy the Razr (2025) at ~$259 if you will keep it for years: the bigger battery and the extra update year are exactly what the $109 buys.
