Apple iPhone 13 mini review: specs, battery & used prices
Hands-on-style overview of the Apple iPhone 13 mini with Apple A15 Bionic: screen, cameras, battery, performance and what it costs used.
Summary
The iPhone 13 mini is the last of the compact iPhones done the classic way: a 5.4-inch OLED, 141 g, the full A15 Bionic with nothing disabled, and IP68 sealing. Our compactness score is 100/100 and we mean it literally — this remains the smallest genuinely flagship phone in the catalog. The battery is the known cost.
Display and design
The 5.4-inch OLED at 60 Hz and 800 nits is sharp, bright and — the defining word — small. The 39/100 screen score records the refresh rate, not the quality. At 141 g, one-handed use is total and comfortable; the mini line's commercial failure was never about the ergonomics.
Performance
The A15 Bionic is identical to the standard 13's: everyday 68/100, gaming 37/100. No modern game notices the size of the phone it is running on. This is the strongest "small phone, no compromise" package anyone has shipped.
Camera
The same dual 12 MP system as the iPhone 13 — main with sensor-shift OIS, ultrawide, 4K60. The 22/100 score again reads the generation gap, not a deficiency specific to the mini. Photos are effectively indistinguishable from the larger phone's.
Battery and charging
The 2,406 mAh battery is the honest limitation: a 0/100 endurance score means heavy users will see the 20% warning by evening. Moderate users make a day. This is the phone for people who accept the trade knowingly — and there is no newer version of it to wait for.
Verdict
The used market has priced the mini's cult status in without becoming silly: 4/128 units cluster around $207 (twelve listings), 4/256 around $263 (four), 4/512 around $265 (one). Against a $700 launch that is gentle depreciation for a discontinued form factor — small phones now appreciate emotionally faster than they depreciate financially. If the battery scares you off, the larger iPhone 13 is the same phone with a bigger cell; the 12 mini is the cheaper, shorter-lived predecessor.
